The operating system I’ve been using since 2013 is Xubuntu, an Ubuntu derivate with Xfce window manager. Xfce is a light-weight window manager making Xubuntu perfect for a little bit older computers as well as for you who wants the most out of a state of the art computer.

I’ve been using Linux since 2001. When I moved to the Xubuntu distribution in 2013 I decided to drop both Windows and macOS for my personal use.

My simple QRP setup

When working contests I really like to keep my setup simple. I use an Yaesu FT-817nd and a ladder-fed dipole. The matchbox is a MFJ-971.

I’m lucky enough to have a good relation to my ex mother in-law and therefore I can borrow a small cottage. The cottage is located approx. 30 km east of Stockholm. Please note that nothing of value is stored when the cottage is unattended! The remote location, still not too far from Stockholm, offers a very good HF environment.

CQ World Wide WPX Contest

tlf logging software

Soon fourteen hours into the WPX SSB contest. I work QRP and so far I have worked 28 stations. Strange propagation with a lot of stations with good signal strength a bit further away, but very few European stations.

My setup is a Yaesu FT-817nd and a ladder-fed 2 x 5 dipole. I participate in the SO Assisted QRP 20 m category.

As I prefer Free/Libre Open-Source Software I use tlf to do the logging on my Xubuntu Linux laptop.
